BNAT Nursing Program
The Basic Nurse Assistant Training (BNAT) course introduces students to the skills and responsibilities of nurse assistants, and prepares students for CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification. The course offers dual college credit and hands-on clinical experiences.

The BNAT program is open to students by application only.
The annual application deadline is the Tuesday before winter break.

Age: Students are at least 17 years of age (open to high school seniors only)

Attendance Record: Students have an outstanding high school attendance record
- Course Requirements- Students have completed the following courses:
- Algebra
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Students have an interest in health careers
- Students meet the Minimum Reading Level (STAR IRL 6th Grade Level)
- Students express the required BNAT Essential Skills (physical, cognitive, emotional/psychological)
Students must also provide documentation of their Social Security Number.
BNAT Course Overview
Dual College Credit
The BNAT course provides 8 college credits from Oakton Community College, BNA 100 and BNA 105, and 2 high school science elective credits.
Preparation for CNA Certification
Students who complete the BNAT program and pass the Illinois Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide Competency Exam will have the qualification to work in hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities.
Clinical Experience
The BNAT course combines classroom lecture with hands-on, supervised practice of nursing skills. Students are also assigned to clinical sites where they work to apply their skills in settings with real patients.
Students must complete 50 hours of clinical work outside of school as required for CNA certification.
